Once your stitches are removed and the wound is completely closed with no scabs, you can start scar therapy. The gold standard is generic silicone gel or silicone sheets, which help flatten and fade scars. Keeping the scar hydrated with plain petroleum jelly or creams containing vitamin E or onion extract also promotes healing. Additionally, protect the healing scar from the sun using a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) to prevent dark discoloration.
