My period was delayed for about four months, and I was told I have PCOS. I suddenly got my period, but the bleeding lasted only one day. What should I do?
With PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), irregular periods are common because ovulation (the release of a mature egg) may not occur regularly. After several months without a period, having only one day of bleeding can happen, but it should not be ignored. If there is any possibility of pregnancy, take a home pregnancy test, even if you have PCOS. If the test is negative, arrange a consultation with your doctor or gynaecologist to assess your hormone levels and uterine lining. Your doctor may recommend treatment to regulate your periods and protect the uterine lining. Seek urgent medical care if you develop severe abdominal pain, very heavy bleeding, dizziness, or fainting.
