I have been having continuous bleeding for the last 6 months, even after undergoing a D&C procedure. What could be causing this, and what should I do?
Continuous bleeding for 6 months, even after a D&C procedure, is not something that should be ignored. This may occur due to hormonal imbalance, retained tissue, uterine fibroids, polyps, adenomyosis, thyroid problems, infection, side effects of medication, or changes in the uterine lining. In some women, anaemia can also develop due to long-term blood loss, leading to weakness, dizziness, and tiredness. Further evaluation is usually needed to determine the exact cause of the ongoing bleeding. Doctors may recommend a pelvic ultrasound, blood tests, hormone testing, a thyroid profile, a haemoglobin check, or an examination of the uterine lining, depending on symptoms and age. Treatment may include hormonal medicines, iron supplementation, infection treatment, or other gynaecological procedures based on the cause. Maintaining hydration and iron-rich foods may help support the body while bleeding continues. Passing large clots, severe abdominal pain, fainting, breathlessness, or very heavy bleeding can indicate significant blood loss and may need faster medical treatment to prevent complications.
