RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET is used to treat tuberculosis in children. Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that mainly affects the lungs but can also spread to other body parts such as the kidneys, brain, spine, and bone marrow.
 
RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET contains Rifampicin, and Isoniazid. Rifampicin inhibits DNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity in the bacteria. Isoniazid inhibits the biosynthesis of mycolic acid, which is the major component of the cell wall. Together, RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET kills Mycobacterium tuberculosis which causes TB (tuberculosis).
 
In some cases, RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET may cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, and loss of appetite. The detailed uses of RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET are as follows:<br/>• Treatment of Active Tuberculosis (TB): RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET is used in combination therapy to treat active TB infections in children. Rifampicin and Isoniazid work synergistically to kill Mycobacterium tuberculosis by disrupting bacterial protein synthesis and cell wall formation, helping reduce symptoms like persistent cough, fever, and weight loss.<br/>• Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI): RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET is used in children who have been exposed to TB but do not yet show symptoms. It helps prevent the progression from latent to active TB, especially in high-risk groups such as those with weakened immune systems.<br/>• Tuberculous Meningitis and Disseminated TB: RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET may be part of a broader regimen to treat severe forms of TB, such as TB meningitis or miliary TB, due to its ability to penetrate the central nervous system and systemic circulation effectively.<br/>• Preventive Therapy in High-Risk Pediatric Contacts: RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET is used as a prophylactic treatment for children who have been in close contact with TB-positive individuals, aiming to stop the infection before it becomes active.<br/>

Directions for Use

• RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET should be administered one hour before or two hours after meals, or as directed by the doctor.• Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication to ensure safety.• Administer the prescribed dose to the child using the measuring cup/dosing syringe.• Shake well before use.

Storage

• Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight.
• Keep RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET out of the sight and reach of children.
• Non cold chain - To be stored in cool places at 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.

What if I have taken an overdose of RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET

Please do not exceed the recommended dose, as it might cause an overdose. Signs and symptoms of an overdose of RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET may include altered sensorium, generalized tonic-clonic seizures, renal and hepatic dysfunctions, and severe metabolic acidosis. Seek immediate medical attention if you observe any symptoms or think you have taken too much. Do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning.

Drug Warnings

Do not give RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET to the child if he/she is allergic to any of the components in RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET, if he/she has acute liver disease, drug-induced liver disease, if the child has experienced liver damage linked to rifampicin or isoniazid, or if the child is taking anti-fungal (voriconazole) or medicines for HIV infection (protease inhibitors). RIMACTAZID DISPED 50MG TABLET may cause liver damage; consult your doctor if the child experiences symptoms such as unexplained loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, dark urine, persistent fatigue for more than 3 days, abdominal pain and tenderness. Consult a doctor if your child gets flu-like symptoms such as headache, fever, or muscle ache. Inform the doctor if your child has HIV infection, epilepsy, psychiatric disorder, diabetes, porphyria, phenylketonuria (metabolic disorder), peripheral neuropathy (tingling sensation in hands and feet), kidney or liver problems, if your child is allergic to ethionamide or niacin (nicotinic acid), or if your child is taking cortisone or any cortisone-like drug.
