Elvect 125mg Suspension is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in children such as chest infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and infection of the nose, sinuses and throat.

Elvect 125mg Suspension contains Levofloxacin, which kills infection-causing bacteria by inhibiting the activity of the DNA-gyrase enzyme found in bacteria. This prevents their ability to divide and repair.

Elvect 125mg Suspension may cause common side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, and headache. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve eventually.  Nevertheless, if the side effects are persistent, contact your doctor.

If the child is allergic to levofloxacin or any of its ingredients, please inform your doctor. Before starting this medicine, inform your doctor if your child is taking any other medication or has any pre-existing medical conditions.

What if I have taken an overdose of Elvect 125mg Suspension

Do not administer more than the prescribed dose of Elvect 125mg Suspension as it may cause an overdose. Using more medication will not improve the symptoms; rather, they may cause poisoning or serious side effects. If you suspect an overdose, please consult a doctor immediately.

Drug Warnings

  • Do not administer Elvect 125mg Suspension if your child is allergic to levofloxacin or any of its components.
  • Please let your doctor know if your child has a history of liver or kidney diseases, tendonitis (inflammation of the tendon, a tissue connecting muscle and bone), fits, diabetes, dehydration, blood dyscrasia (decreased peripheral blood cell counts), colitis (inflammation of the colon) or is undergoing dialysis treatment.

  • Antibiotics can alter the beneficial bacteria in the stomach. Therefore, you are advised to give your children foods rich in probiotics, such as yoghurt/curd, kefir, sauerkraut, tempeh, kimchi, miso, kombucha, buttermilk, natto, and cheese.
  • Give fibre-rich food like whole grains, beans, lentils, berries, broccoli, peas, and bananas.
  • Avoid giving foods rich in calcium, such as grapefruit and grapefruit juice, as they might hinder antibiotic absorption.
  • Ensure your child drinks sufficient amounts of fluids to prevent dehydration.
