Diof Suspension is an oral prescription combination used for certain bacterial and parasitic infections, including some infections affecting the digestive tract. It may be prescribed for conditions such as bacterial diarrhea or dysentery when your doctor considers this combination appropriate. Because diarrhea can have many causes, including viruses, this medicine should be used only when prescribed for a suspected or confirmed infection that can respond to these medicines.
For the best results, take Diof Suspension exactly as prescribed and at evenly spaced times. It may be taken with food if it causes stomach upset, unless your doctor or product instructions say otherwise. Drink adequate fluids, particularly if you have diarrhea, to help prevent dehydration. Follow your healthcare professional's advice about food and other medicines during treatment.
Some people may experience mild side effects such as nausea, stomach discomfort, headache, dizziness, or a metallic taste. These effects are often temporary. However, contact your doctor promptly if you develop severe or persistent diarrhea, unusual numbness or tingling, tendon pain or swelling, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or other concerning symptoms. Seek emergency medical help if you develop severe difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Before starting this medicine, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, epilepsy or seizures, nerve problems, heart-rhythm problems, or a history of tendon disorders. Also tell your doctor if you have previously experienced a serious reaction to ofloxacin, metronidazole, other fluoroquinolone antibiotics, or nitroimidazole medicines. Your doctor will decide whether this combination is appropriate for you.
Diof Suspension can interact with several medicines and substances. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, supplements, and antacids you use. Avoid alcohol during treatment with metronidazole and for at least 48–72 hours after the final dose, unless your doctor gives different advice. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or an older adult, discuss the benefits and possible risks with your doctor before using this medicine.
Diof Suspension is used in the treatment of various bacterial and parasitic infections. Its detailed uses are as follows:
Diof Suspension combines two antibiotics with different mechanisms of action. When prescribed for an infection caused by susceptible organisms, the combination can help eliminate the bacteria and certain parasites responsible for the illness, allowing infection-related symptoms to improve.
For appropriate gastrointestinal infections, successful treatment may help reduce symptoms such as frequent stools, abdominal discomfort, and infection-related weakness. However, antibiotics do not treat viral diarrhea, and fluid and electrolyte replacement remain important when diarrhea causes significant fluid loss.
