Hi, doctor I had a major wound on my foot twelve days prior, so I was patched as directed by the doctor. I therefore wanted to know how to keep it away from water. How long will it take for the skin to heal? What ointment should I use if necessary, and how many days should I use it?
Depending on the extent of the injury, your overall health, and the presence of an infection, a large foot wound may take several weeks to heal. When taking a bath, try to keep the dressing dry and clean, keep the foot out of the water, and cover it with a waterproof cloth. Don't take off or replace the dressing more frequently than your doctor recommends. Because the best course of action depends on the type of wound, ointments and antibiotics should only be used as directed. See your doctor right away if you experience any of these symptoms, particularly if you have diabetes: redness, swelling, pus, fever, foul odour, or worsening pain.
