My 1-year-old daughter has loose stools, and I gave her Lactic Acid Bacillus Flora BC liquid, but she is still not getting much relief. What can help control the loose motions, and when should I worry about her condition?

Loose stools in a 1-year-old child are commonly caused by viral infection, teething, food intolerance, stomach infection, or contaminated food or water. Lactic Acid Bacillus may help improve gut balance in some children, but relief may not happen immediately, especially if the infection is still active. The most important concern at this age is preventing dehydration. Continue giving small amounts of fluids frequently, such as ORS, breast milk, or normal feeds if she is accepting them. Avoid oily, spicy, or outside foods, and try simple foods like rice, banana, curd, or khichdi if advised for her age. Do not stop feeding completely because children need fluids and nutrition during loose motions. Medicines for diarrhoea or antibiotics should not be given without proper pediatric advice. Please seek medical care promptly if she develops fever, vomiting, blood in stool, reduced urine output, dry mouth, unusual sleepiness, refusal to drink, sunken eyes, or very frequent, watery stools, as these may be signs of dehydration or a serious infection.
