Coloview Emulsion belongs to a group of medicines called anti-flatulent agents used to treat symptoms of flatulence. This medicine facilitates the expulsion of gas through flatus or burping, decreasing the surface tension of gas bubbles. This helps reduce symptoms such as painful or uncomfortable pressure, bloating, and fullness. It is also used as a diagnostic aid to facilitate the removal of gas from the stomach and intestine prior to gastroscopy, sonography of the abdominal organs and spine, and X-ray examination.

About Coloview Emulsion

Coloview Emulsion is an oral emulsion used to relieve the painful symptoms of excess gas in the digestive tract. It is commonly taken to treat stomach bloating, pressure, fullness, and wind. This medicine is safe and effective for adults, children, and infants suffering from gas-related discomfort.

This medicine is typically taken as needed after meals and at bedtime, or according to your doctor's instructions. Consistency is key when treating ongoing gas issues, though it is usually only taken when symptoms occur. You can take this oral emulsion with or without food, though taking it after meals targets digestive gas more effectively. Incorporating lifestyle changes, such as eating slowly and avoiding carbonated drinks, will also improve your digestive health.

While side effects are extremely rare, some people may experience mild diarrhoea, nausea, or a headache. If you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as a skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, or difficulty breathing, stop taking the medicine immediately and consult a doctor.

Before starting this medicine, talk to your doctor if you have any long-term intestinal blockages or severe abdominal pain of unknown origin. Do not take this if you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients in this formulation.

This medicine does not have known interactions with alcohol or smoking because it is not absorbed into your bloodstream and works purely within your gut. However, if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or administering this to an elderly individual, consult your doctor first to ensure it is suitable.

Uses of Coloview Emulsion

Coloview Emulsion is used to relieve discomfort caused by excess gas in the stomach and intestines. The detailed uses of Coloview Emulsion are as follows:

  • Abdominal bloating: Coloview Emulsion helps by breaking down the surface tension of gas bubbles trapped in the stomach and intestines, allowing them to merge into larger bubbles that are easier to eliminate.
  • Flatulence and excess gas: Coloview Emulsion reduces the discomfort, pain, and pressure caused by excessive wind in the digestive tract, providing quick relief from fullness.
  • Infantile colic: Coloview Emulsion gently relieves gas-related stomach pain and crying in infants by helping them pass trapped wind more easily.
  • Diagnostic imaging preparation: Coloview Emulsion is sometimes used before abdominal ultrasounds or endoscopic examinations to remove gas shadows and foam, ensuring clearer diagnostic images.

Key Benefits

Coloview Emulsion may help relieve discomfort caused by excess gas in the digestive tract, including bloating, abdominal pressure, and cramping.
Benefits may include:

  • Coloview Emulsion may help reduce the feeling of fullness, pressure, and abdominal discomfort associated with trapped gas, helping you feel more comfortable during daily activities.
  • As an oral emulsion, Coloview Emulsion can be taken in liquid form, which may be convenient for people who have difficulty swallowing tablets or capsules. Follow the recommended dose and directions provided by your doctor or product label.
  • The active component works primarily within the digestive tract and is minimally absorbed into the bloodstream. This may limit systemic exposure, although side effects can still occur in some people.

Directions for Use

  • Use Coloview Emulsion as advised by your doctor.

In Colonoscopy:

  • For low volume oral-sulphate solution: Mix 7.5 mL of Coloview Emulsion with each bottle of 500 mL of diluted Coloprep solution and consume as directed by the physician.
  • For polyethylene glycol based preparations: Mix 7.5 mL of Coloview Emulsion with each 1 litre (15 mL of Coloview Emulsion for total 2 litres) of prepared colon cleansing solution and consume as directed by the physician.

In Capsule Endoscopy:

  • Consume 15 mL of Coloview Emulsion 30 minutes before capsule ingestion or as directed by the physician.

How Coloview Emulsion Works

Coloview Emulsion works through a physical process rather than a chemical reaction in your body. It acts as an anti-foaming agent directly inside your stomach and intestines. When you swallow the emulsion, it spreads across the surface of the mucus and liquid in your digestive tract. The medicine works by changing the surface tension of the tiny, trapped gas bubbles in your gut. This causes these small bubbles to pop and merge into larger pockets of gas. Your body can then easily disperse or pass these larger bubbles naturally through burping or passing wind, quickly relieving the internal pressure and discomfort.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Eat and drink slowly: Gulping down food or liquids causes you to swallow excess air, which leads to gas buildup. Chew your food thoroughly.
  • Limit gas-producing foods: Keep a food diary to identify triggers. Common gas-inducing foods include beans, lentils, broccoli, cabbage, onions, and dairy products if you are lactose intolerant.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks: Sodas, sparkling water, and beer release carbon dioxide gas into your stomach, worsening bloating.
  • Skip the chewing gum and straws: Both chewing gum and drinking through straws significantly increase the amount of air you swallow.
  • Stay active: Gentle physical activity, like a 10-15 minute walk after meals, helps stimulate the muscles of your digestive tract to move trapped gas through your system.

FAQs

Coloview Emulsion belongs to a group of medicines called anti-flatulent agents used to treat symptoms of flatulence (gas/wind), such as painful or uncomfortable pressure, bloating, and fullness. It is also used as a diagnostic aid to facilitate the removal of gas from the stomach and intestine before gastroscopy, sonography of the abdominal organs and spine, and x-ray examination.
Coloview Emulsion works by decreasing the surface tension of gas bubbles, thereby facilitating the expulsion of gas through flatus or belching (burping). It also prevents the accumulation and formation of gas in the digestive tract.
Coloview Emulsion might interfere with the absorption of levothyroxine. Therefore, consult a doctor before taking Coloview Emulsion with levothyroxine.
Simethicone is not the same as dimethicone. Simethicone is activated dimethicone that contains dimethicone mixed with silica gel or silicon dioxide, which works better to treat gas/wind in the gut.
Malaria infection can be extremely dangerous for both mother and baby. Your doctor will evaluate if the protective benefits of taking Coloview Emulsion outweigh the risks to your pregnancy. Talk to your doctor.
Taking your dose alongside a full meal, a heavy snack, or a glass of milk can significantly reduce nausea and stomach cramps. If stomach upset persists or gets worse, talk to your doctor.
While Coloview Emulsion is highly effective, no preventive medication is 100% reliable. You must continue to use physical protection like insect repellents and bed nets. Talk to your doctor if you develop a fever after your trip.
It is safest to avoid alcohol during your treatment, as both alcohol and this medicine are processed by your liver, and combining them can increase your risk of liver damage. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Taking this medication for a long time can occasionally cause changes or damage to your retina, which is the light-sensitive layer at the back of your eye. Regular eye exams can catch these changes before they affect your vision. Talk to your doctor.
No, antacids containing aluminum or magnesium can block your body from properly absorbing this medicine. You should wait at least 4 hours after taking Coloview Emulsion before taking an antacid. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Yes, it can be prescribed to children in precise doses based on their body weight. However, because even a very small accidental dose can be highly toxic to a child, you must keep it locked securely out of their reach. Talk to your doctor.
