About Xylap Cream

Xylap Cream is used to produce local numbness (anaesthesia) on the skin before surgical procedures or injections. Pain is a symptom triggered by the nervous system, which causes uncomfortable sensations in the body. Pain may be dull or sharp, constant or intermittent, and the tolerance level of pain might vary from person to person.

Xylap Cream is a combination of amide-type local anaesthetics: Lidocaine and Prilocaine. It blocks the influx (entry) of sodium ions into the membrane surrounding the nerves, thereby preventing the initiation and conduction of impulses. Hence, it gives an anaesthetic effect and helps decrease the sensation of pain.

Use Xylap Cream as suggested by your doctor. Do not apply it to broken, irritated skin or open wounds unless directed by your doctor. In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects, such as reactions at the application site (burning, itching, redness, and irritation). Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Before using Xylap Cream, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have broken skin/infection in the area where Xylap Cream is to be applied, heart disease, liver disease, or a certain blood disorder (methemoglobinemia). Inform your doctor before using Xylap Cream if you plan to get pregnant, are pregnant or breastfeeding. If Xylap Cream comes in contact with the eyes, nose, mouth, rectum, or vagina, rinse with water immediately. Do not apply Xylap Cream on the swollen skin areas or deep puncture wounds. Inform your doctor about your health condition and medications before using Xylap Cream to rule out any side effects.

Uses of Xylap Cream

Xylap Cream is used to treat the pain (during surgical procedures and injections). The detailed uses of Xylap Cream are as follows:

  • Local Anaesthetic: Xylap Cream acts as a local anaesthetic, numbing the skin to reduce pain and discomfort during injections or minor surgeries.
  • Post-surgical Pain Relief: Xylap Cream provides post-surgical pain relief by numbing the skin, alleviating localised pain and discomfort after surgery.
  • Skin Irritation Management: Xylap Cream numbs the skin, providing temporary relief from irritation caused by minor burns, insect bites, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, and other skin conditions by blocking nerve signals.
  • Dermatological Procedures: Xylap Cream is used before dermatological procedures like laser treatments or chemical peels to numb the skin, reducing pain and discomfort.
  • Sexual Activity support: In some cases, Xylap Cream application can be used to help manage premature ejaculation in men by numbing the area, thus extending sexual activity duration.

Directions for Use

• Generally, you may need to use it at home up to 4 hours prior to your surgery/procedure. However, follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication to ensure safety. • Check the directions on the label and use it as advised by the doctor. Your doctor will tell you how much to use and how long to leave it on your skin. Follow these instructions carefully. • Do not cover the treated area with a bandage or plastic wrap unless advised by the doctor.

Medicinal Benefits

Xylap Cream combines amide-type local anaesthetics, namely, Lidocaine and Prilocaine. It is used to produce local numbness (anaesthesia). It is used to numb the normal, unbroken skin or the outer genital area to prevent pain before surgical procedures such as inserting a needle, skin grafts, or skin laser surgery. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve signals in the body, thereby helping decrease the sensation of pain.

How Xylap Cream Works

Xylap Cream is a combination of amide-type local anaesthetics: Lidocaine and Prilocaine. Xylap Cream blocks the influx (entry) of sodium ions into the membrane that surrounds the nerves, thereby preventing the initiation and conduction of impulses. Hence, it gives an anaesthetic effect and helps decrease the sensation of pain.

Storage

What if I have taken an overdose of Xylap Cream

Avoid exceeding the recommended dose as it might cause an overdose. An overdose of numbing medicine can cause fatal side effects if too much of the medicine is absorbed through your skin. Overdose symptoms may include uneven heartbeats, seizures, slowed breathing, respiratory failure, and coma. Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect you have overdosed or experience any of these symptoms.

Drug Warnings

Use the recommended dose of Xylap Cream to numb the skin. Do not exceed the dose and duration, or cover treated skin areas with a bandage without the doctor's advice. In some cases, Xylap Cream can cause fatal side effects such as uneven heartbeats, seizure (convulsions), coma, slowed breathing or respiratory failure (breathing stops), if too much of the medicine is absorbed through the skin. Consult your doctor before using Xylap Cream if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your doctor will prescribe Xylap Cream only if the benefits outweigh the risks. Xylap Cream causes drowsiness, so drive with caution. Avoid consuming alcohol along with Xylap Cream as it could lead to increased drowsiness. Xylap Cream may not be suitable for people with a blood disorder, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, kidney or liver problems. Inform your doctor about your health condition and medications before using Xylap Cream to rule out any side effects.
