About Steadifer Capsule

Steadifer Capsule belongs to a class of medications called haematinics, primarily used to treat anaemia (lack of blood) and folic acid deficiency that occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food, or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). Anaemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen required by various body tissues.

Steadifer Capsule is a combination of two drugs, namely: Ferrous fumarate (an iron supplement) and folic acid (a form of vitamin B9). Steadifer Capsule works by increasing red blood cells (RBC) and haemoglobin (a protein) production in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBCs are produced in the body so that the body's tissue gets a sufficient supply of oxygen.

Take Steadifer Capsule as advised by your doctor. In some cases, you may experience vomiting, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, stomach pain or a change in the colour of the stool. Most of these side effects of Steadifer Capsule do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Steadifer Capsule or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Steadifer Capsule should be used with caution in children and only if recommended by a doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before using Steadifer Capsule . If you have an allergy to any sugars, inform your doctor before taking Steadifer Capsule as it may contain lactose. If you have a stomach ulcer, vitamin B12 deficiency, any blood disorder, repeated blood transfusions, ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon), pernicious anaemia (anaemia due to lack of vitamin B12) or folate-dependent tumour, inform your doctor before taking Steadifer Capsule .

Uses of Steadifer Capsule

Steadifer Capsule is used in the treatment of anaemia and Folic acid deficiency. The detailed uses of Steadifer Capsule are as follows:

  • Treatment of Iron Deficiency Anaemia: Steadifer Capsule is widely used to treat and prevent iron deficiency anaemia, addressing issues caused by insufficient dietary iron or blood loss. They help boost haemoglobin levels effectively.
  • Nutritional Support: Steadifer Capsule acts as a nutritional supplement for individuals with heightened iron needs, such as pregnant women or those with dietary restrictions, ensuring adequate iron intake.
  • Recovery Post-Surgery: Steadifer Capsule aids in replenishing iron levels after surgeries involving blood loss, promoting faster healing and recovery.
  • Enhancing Energy Levels: The iron and vitamin composition in Steadifer Capsule improves oxygen transportation within the body, helping reduce fatigue and support higher energy levels.

Directions for Use

  • Steadifer Capsule is recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, usually 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals, as advised by your doctor.
  • Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication to ensure safety.
  • Swallow Steadifer Capsule as a whole with a glass of water.
  • Do not chew, crush or break it.

Medicinal Benefits

  • Steadifer Capsule contains two active ingredients: Ferrous fumarate (an iron supplement) and folic acid (a form of vitamin B9).
  • Ferrous fumarate helps increase red blood cell (RBC) and haemoglobin production in the body, improving oxygen delivery to tissues.
  • Folic acid supports the formation of healthy cells and is especially important for women of childbearing age.
  • During pregnancy, folic acid plays a key role in the development of the baby's brain and spinal cord.
  • Steadifer Capsule is commonly used to treat and prevent iron deficiency anaemia.
  • It helps improve energy levels, reduce fatigue, and support overall health by correcting low iron and folate levels.
  • Steadifer Capsule may also be recommended during pregnancy to meet increased nutritional needs and support fetal development.

How Steadifer Capsule Works

Steadifer Capsule is a combination of two drugs: ferrous fumarate (an iron supplement) and folic acid (a form of vitamin B9). It works by increasing the production of red blood cells (RBCs) and haemoglobin, a protein in RBCs that carries oxygen. This helps ensure that all body tissues receive an adequate supply of oxygen.

Storage

• Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight.• Keep Steadifer Capsule out of reach and sight of children.• Non cold chain - To be stored in cool places at 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.

What if I have taken an overdose of Steadifer Capsule

Take Steadifer Capsule only as suggested by the physician. Avoid exceeding the recommended dose as it could lead to an overdose. Symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhoea, severe stomach pain, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds, pale skin, weak and rapid pulse, shallow breathing, blue lips, and convulsions. If you experience these symptoms or suspect you have taken an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

Drug Warnings

  • Do not take Steadifer Capsule if you are allergic to ferrous fumarate, folic acid, or any of its ingredients. Always inform your doctor about known allergies.
  • Keep out of reach of children, as accidental iron overdose can be life-threatening, especially in children under six.
  • Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only under medical supervision. While folic acid and iron are often recommended during pregnancy, the exact dosage and timing should be guided by a healthcare professional.
  • Avoid use in certain conditions such as iron overload (e.g., hemochromatosis), hemolytic anaemia, or if you’re receiving repeated blood transfusions, unless suggested by a doctor.
  • Folic acid may mask vitamin B12 deficiency, especially in cases like pernicious anaemia. This can delay diagnosis and allow nerve damage to progress, so medical supervision is essential.
  • Use with caution in gastrointestinal conditions, such as ulcers, ulcerative colitis, or malabsorption. Always inform your doctor of any such history.
  • Some foods and medications can interfere with absorption, including antacids, tea, coffee, dairy, and whole grains. Take the supplement away from such items for a better effect.
