SPASMONIL DROPS is a drop or suspension prescribed to help relieve stomach pain, abdominal cramps, and trapped gas in infants and young children. It contains dicyclomine, which helps relax the muscles of the digestive tract, and dimethicone, which helps break up trapped gas bubbles so they can be passed more easily. Doctors may prescribe this medicine to help relieve symptoms of infant colic and other conditions that cause painful intestinal spasms.
For the best results, give this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor, usually before feeds or meals if advised. Try to give each dose at the same time every day. Along with the medicine, simple measures such as feeding your baby in a semi-upright position, burping during and after feeds, and avoiding overfeeding may help reduce colic and trapped gas.
Most children tolerate this medicine well. Mild side effects such as drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, or dizziness are usually temporary and improve as the medicine wears off. However, stop giving the medicine and consult your doctor right away if your child develops severe drowsiness, difficulty breathing, a severe allergic reaction, or any other unusual symptoms.
Before giving SPASMONIL DROPS, tell your doctor if your child has any long-term medical conditions, especially stomach or intestinal blockage, severe gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), glaucoma, or urinary tract obstruction. Do not give this medicine to infants younger than 6 months of age unless specifically instructed by a doctor, as dicyclomine can cause serious side effects in very young infants.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines, drops, herbal products, or supplements your child is taking. Some medicines, including antihistamines and certain digestive medicines, may increase the risk of side effects or affect how this medicine works.
Your doctor may prescribe SPASMONIL DROPS to help manage the following conditions:
SPASMONIL DROPS provides two-way relief by treating both painful intestinal muscle spasms and trapped gas, helping your child feel more comfortable.
