Silverex Ointment is used to cauterise (medical practice of burning or removing a part of a body to stop bleeding and prevent infection) infected tissues around a skin wound. It is also used to remove warts or skin tags. It contains Silver Nitrate, which kills bacteria. Silver nitrate releases free silver ions that react with tissue chlorides to produce silver chloride. These ions also denature and coagulate cellular proteins, leading to the formation of an eschar, which is dead tissue that eventually separates from the wound. It may cause common side effects like a burning sensation, skin staining, and irritation at the application site. Before using this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

About Silverex Ointment

Silverex Ointment is a topical anti-infective, antiseptic, antibacterial, and cauterising agent, primarily used to cauterise infected tissues around a skin wound. Cauterisation is a medical practice of burning or removing a part of the body to stop bleeding and prevent infection. Silverex Ointment helps create a scab (protective tissue covering that forms after skin damage) to stop bleeding from a minor skin wound.

Silverex Ointment contains 'Silver Nitrate,' which is an antiseptic and antibacterial agent that works by inhibiting the growth of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Free silver ions in silver nitrate act by precipitating bacterial proteins. They combine with tissue chlorides to form silver chloride and coagulate cellular proteins, resulting in the formation of an eschar (a layer of dead tissue that eventually sloughs off from the wound).

Silverex Ointment is for external use only. Silverex Ointment may cause common side effects like a burning sensation, skin staining, and irritation at the application site. These side effects gradually resolve during the treatment and do not require medical attention.

If you are allergic to Silverex Ointment or any other medications, inform your doctor. Silverex Ointment is not used to treat genital warts. Silverex Ointment should be used with caution in electrolyte imbalance like hyponatremia (low sodium levels in the blood) and hypochloremia (low chloride levels in the blood). Silverex Ointment can be caustic (able to burn) and irritates when applied to the skin and mucous membranes. Silverex Ointment can easily stain skin, utensils, clothing and linens, hence it is advised to handle it carefully. Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive before using Silverex Ointment since it may affect the unborn baby.
