About Romical Plus Tablet

Romical Plus Tablet is primarily used to treat low blood calcium levels. It effectively treats various conditions, such as vitamin D deficiency, osteoporosis (characterised by weak bones), and latent tetany (a muscle disease associated with low blood calcium levels). Additionally, Romical Plus Tablet is used to treat hyperparathyroidism (overactive parathyroid glands) and metabolic bone disease in people with chronic kidney disease, surgery, or other conditions.

Romical Plus Tablet contains Calcitriol (Vitamin D3). Calcitriol is a synthetic version of Vitamin D3. It raises Vitamin D levels and thereby increases calcium levels in the blood. This helps in improving the absorption rate of calcium from the intestine.

In some cases, Romical Plus Tablet can cause side effects like constipation, stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, mood changes, weakness, tiredness, fast or pounding heartbeat, bone/muscle pain, and headache. Most of these side effects of Romical Plus Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if these side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.

Take Romical Plus Tablet as prescribed by your doctor. Depending on your medical condition, you are advised to take Romical Plus Tablet for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you. Romical Plus Tablet can be taken with or without food. Do not chew, bite or break the medicine.

Inform your physician if you are allergic to Romical Plus Tablet. Let your doctor know if you have any liver/kidney disease, heart disease, kidney stones and hypervitaminosis D (having too much vitamin D) hypercalcaemia (high calcium levels), hypervitaminosis D (high vitamin D levels), heart, kidney, liver, or blood vessel diseases, kidney stones, or malabsorption syndrome (difficulty absorbing nutrients from food) before starting Romical Plus Tablet. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking Romical Plus Tablet.

What if I have taken an overdose of Romical Plus Tablet

Avoid exceeding the recommended dose as it could lead to an overdose. Symptoms of overdose may include feeling tired, difficulty thinking clearly, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, constipation, increased thirst, increased urination, weight loss, weakness, headache, upset stomach, dry mouth, muscle or bone pain, metallic taste in the mouth, difficult or painful urination, changes in vision, hallucination (seeing things or hearing voices that do not exist), fever or chills, stomach pain, pale/fatty stools, yellowing of the skin or eyes, runny nose, decreased sexual desire, and irregular heartbeat. If you experience these symptoms or suspect you have taken an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Include dairy products like milk, yoghurt, cheese, or milk-based custard in your diet.
  • Eat a serving of broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, spinach, and other green leafy vegetables daily.
  • Snack on calcium-rich nuts like Brazil nuts or almonds.
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds over your food, vegetables, and salads. Sesame seeds are high in calcium.
  • Avoid or reduce the intake of caffeine, soft drinks, and alcohol that inhibit calcium absorption.

What if you forget to take Romical Plus Tablet

If you miss a dose of Romical Plus Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

• Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight.• Keep Romical Plus Tablet out of the sight and reach of children. • Non cold chain - To be stored in cool places at 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.

  • Avoid taking Romical Plus Tablet if you are allergic to it.
  • Before taking Romical Plus Tablet, inform your doctor if you are undergoing hemodialysis due to kidney problems and have a stent in the heart.
  • Romical Plus Tablet may alter calcium levels, so it is recommended to monitor calcium levels in the blood and urine regularly.
  • Inform your doctor immediately if you notice fever, increased thirst and urination, dehydration, bedwetting, constipation, and stomach pain, as they may be signs of very high calcium levels in your blood.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking Romical Plus Tablet.
  • Higher doses of vitamin D than the recommended daily dose should be used in pregnant women only when advised by the doctor.

Drug-Drug interactions: Romical Plus Tablet may interact with other medicines containing vitamin D, Steroid medicines (hydrocortisone, prednisolone, dexamethasone), a medicine used to treat high levels of cholesterol in your blood (cholestyramine), medications containing magnesium, such as antacids (used to treat indigestion), medicines used to treat heart disease (digoxin or digitoxin), and diuretic medicines (bendroflumethiazide, chlortalidone, indapamide)
