PROTERA I CAPSULE is used in the treatment of hyperacidity, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and peptic ulcer. The detailed uses of PROTERA I CAPSULE are as follows:

• Hyperacidity: PROTERA I CAPSULE works by reducing excessive stomach acid production, providing relief from symptoms such as heartburn, indigestion, and stomach discomfort.
• Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD): PROTERA I CAPSULE helps manage acid reflux by lowering acid levels, thereby reducing regurgitation, irritation of the oesophagus, and difficulty swallowing.
• Peptic ulcer: PROTERA I CAPSULE promotes healing of stomach and intestinal ulcers by decreasing acid secretion and preventing further damage to the ulcerated tissues.

• PROTERA I CAPSULE is a combination of two drugs: Pantoprazole (a proton pump inhibitor) and Itopride (a prokinetic agent). Together, they provide the following medicinal benefits:
• Pantoprazole decreases excessive stomach acid production, preventing irritation and damage to the stomach and oesophagus.
• Itopride enhances stomach contractions, speeds up gastric emptying, and reduces bloating, nausea, and early satiety.
• The combined action of both medicines controls the backwards flow of stomach contents, providing relief from heartburn and indigestion.
• Reduced acid levels and improved stomach function help in the healing of peptic ulcers and prevent their recurrence.
• The dual mechanism offers comprehensive relief from symptoms of acid-peptic disorders, including gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

• Take PROTERA I CAPSULE 30-60 minutes before food or as advised by your doctor.
• Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication to ensure safe and effective use.
• Swallow PROTERA I CAPSULE as a whole with a glass of water.
• Do not crush, break, or chew it.

• Eat smaller meals more often.
• Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption. Alcohol intake leads to increased production of stomach acid, thereby increasing acidity and heartburn.
• Maintain a healthy weight through regular exercise.
• Avoid lying down after eating.

• Inform your doctor about any history of gastrointestinal bleeding, stomach or intestinal perforation, bowel obstruction, movement disorders (such as Parkinson's disease), liver or kidney problems, autoimmune conditions (such as lupus), or electrolyte imbalances. Also, provide a complete list of all medications you are taking, as PROTERA I CAPSULE may interact with certain drugs or require dose adjustments.
• Long-term use of Pantoprazole (typically beyond 3–12 months) may cause low magnesium levels, leading to tremors, muscle cramps, seizures, or abnormal heart rhythms. Periodic magnesium level monitoring is advised.
• Prolonged use of proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole (≥ 1 year) may increase the risk of bone fractures, particularly in the hip, wrist, or spine. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest required duration.
• Extended use may reduce absorption of vitamin B₁₂, calcium, and iron, and may increase the risk of gastrointestinal infections (Clostridioides difficile), pneumonia, or formation of stomach polyps.
• Report any unusual symptoms such as joint pain, persistent rash, fever, or dark-colored urine, as these may indicate rare but serious side effects such as kidney inflammation or lupus-like reactions.
• Consult your doctor before using PROTERA I CAPSULE if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as safety data are limited. Use in children has not been established and is generally not recommended.
