About Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml

Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml belongs to a class of medications called antipsychotics used to treat schizophrenia (a mental illness) and other psychotic disorders. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects the ability of a person to feel, think and behave clearly.

Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml contains Flupentixol which works by inhibiting the dopamine (chemical messenger) receptors in the brain. Dopamine is involved in regulating mood, behaviour, and emotions. Thereby, Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml helps in controlling psychotic illness by preventing the overactivity of dopamine in the brain. Thus, it helps in improving feelings, disturbing thoughts, and behaviour.

Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml will be administered by a healthcare professional; do not self-administer. Some people may experience dry mouth, drowsiness, rigidity of the whole body, muscle spasms, headache, changes in weight, dizziness, insomnia (difficulty in sleeping), nervousness, or depression. Most of these side effects of Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor. 

Please tell your doctor if you are allergic to Flupentixol or other medicines. Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml is not recommended for children and adolescents. What if I have taken an overdose of Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml

Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml is a parenteral formulation, hence the chance of overdose may be less. However, keep a track of your medicine as overdose of Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml may cause serious side effects such as sedation, frequently preceded by extreme agitation, excitement, etc. Reach to the nearest hospital if you observe any of these side effects.

Drug Warnings

Please tell your doctor if you are allergic to Flupentixol or other medicines. If you have low potassium or magnesium in your blood, inform your doctor before taking Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml. Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml is not recommended for children and adolescents. You are not recommended to take Pencalm-40 Injection 2 ml with levodopa (antiparkinson drug) as it may decrease the effectiveness of levodopa and increase the risk of adverse effects such as low blood pressure, drowsiness, light-headedness and dizziness.
