Ofax Eye Ointment is used to treat bacterial eye infections, including conjunctivitis and ulcers of the cornea. Conjunctivitis (pink eye) is a common bacterial eye infection associated with the inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva (white part of the eye) and the inner eyelid.
Ofax Eye Ointment contains Ofloxacin, which works by inhibiting DNA gyrase (bacterial enzyme) that is involved in repairing and replicating the DNA (genetic material) of bacteria. Thereby, it kills bacteria and clears infection.
Use Ofax Eye Ointment as prescribed by your doctor. Ofax Eye Ointment is only for use in eyes. You are advised to use Ofax Eye Ointment for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience dry eyes, blurred vision, eye discomfort, eye redness, mild itching, or irritation in the eye. You are not recommended to wear contact lenses while using Ofax Eye Ointment as it contains benzalkonium chloride, a preservative that changes the colour of contact lens as it may be absorbed by soft contact lens. Benzalkonium chloride also causes irritation in the eye especially if you have disorders of cornea (transparent layer at the front of eye) or dry eyes. Therefore, you are advised to remove contact lenses before using Ofax Eye Ointment and reinsert them after 15 minutes after using Ofax Eye Ointment. Also, inform your doctor if you experience pain, stinging or abnormal sensation in the eye after using Ofax Eye Ointment.
Ofax Eye Ointment may cause temporary blurred vision immediately after using. Therefore, you are recommended to wait until your vision is clear before driving or operating machinery.
Ofax Eye Ointment is not used to treat fungal infection in the eye. Ofax Eye Ointment is only used to treat bacterial eye infections.
