About Nemocid Suspension

Nemocid Suspension belongs to a group of antiparasitic drugs called 'anthelmintic' used to treat intestinal worm infections like pinworm, roundworm, hookworm and other parasite infections.

Nemocid Suspension contains ‘Pyrantel Pamoate’ which works by paralysing the intestinal worms. This causes metabolic disruption and energy depletion in the parasite, which leads to its immobilisation. Thus, Nemocid Suspension kills the susceptible helminth (parasitic worms) and treats the infection.

Like all medicines, Nemocid Suspension may cause some common side effects, including diarrhoea, dizziness, headache, irritability, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting, and trouble sleeping in some cases. Most of these side effects of Nemocid Suspension do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if you notice any of these side effects persist or worsen your child’s condition, inform your doctor immediately.

Inform your doctor about your child's entire medical history. Other drugs or supplements should not be combined with Nemocid Suspension unless prescribed by a doctor. Do not give this medicine without a doctor's prescription.

Uses of Nemocid Suspension

Nemocid Suspension is used in the treatment of Parasitic worm infections in children. The detailed uses of Nemocid Suspension are as follows:

  • Pinworm Infections (Enterobiasis): Nemocid Suspension is commonly prescribed to treat pinworm infections, which are especially frequent in children. These worms cause intense itching around the anus, particularly at night, leading to disturbed sleep and discomfort. This paralyzes the worms, allowing them to be expelled naturally through bowel movements.
  • Roundworm Infections (Ascariasis) : Nemocid Suspension is effective against roundworms, which can cause abdominal pain, poor appetite, nausea, and growth delays in children. By disrupting the worms ability to attach to the intestinal wall, the medication helps clear the infection efficiently.
  • Hookworm Infections: In cases of hookworm infestation, which may lead to anemia, fatigue, and nutrient deficiencies, Nemocid Suspension helps eliminate the worms and reduce associated symptoms. This is especially important in areas where hookworm is endemic and contributes to poor childhood development.
  • Threadworm and Other Helminthic Infections: Nemocid Suspension may also be used for threadworms and other intestinal parasites, depending on the clinical diagnosis and local parasite prevalence.

Key Benefits

Nemocid Suspension belongs to a group of anthelmintic (antiparasitic) medicines used to treat intestinal worm infections such as pinworm, hookworm and roundworm. It works by causing paralysis of the worms by reducing their muscular activity. This causes metabolic disruption and energy depletion in the parasite, leading to immobilization. Thus, Nemocid Suspension kills the susceptible helminth (parasitic worms), and then they are passed through the stool.

Directions for Use

  • Nemocid Suspension can be given to your child with food, juice, or milk or on an empty stomach as advised by the doctor.
  • Follow your doctor’s instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication to ensure safety.
  • Administer the prescribed dose to the child using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper.
  • Shake well before use.

How Nemocid Suspension Works

Nemocid Suspension contains pyrantel pamoate, a medicine that acts against certain intestinal worms. It works mainly within the intestine, where the worms are present. Pyrantel affects the nerves and muscles of susceptible worms, causing them to become paralysed. The paralysed worms can no longer maintain their position in the intestine and are then passed out of the body through normal bowel movements.

What if I have taken an overdose of Nemocid Suspension

If you suspect your child has taken more than the recommended amount of Nemocid Suspension, seek immediate medical attention, even if they do not show any immediate symptoms.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Wash hands frequently: Have your child wash their hands with warm water and soap after using the toilet, playing outdoors, and before eating.
  • Keep nails short: Clip your child's fingernails short and keep them clean to prevent worm eggs from collecting under the nails. Encourage them to avoid biting their nails or sucking their thumbs.
  • Disinfect bedding and clothing: Wash all bed sheets, blankets, pyjamas, and underwear in hot water, and dry them on high heat during the treatment period to destroy any remaining eggs.
  • Clean household surfaces: Vacuum carpets, play areas, and dust surfaces regularly, as worm eggs can survive on household objects for several weeks.
  • Bathe in the morning: Give your child a shower or bath in the morning to help wash away any eggs laid on the skin overnight.

What if you forget to take Nemocid Suspension

Because Nemocid Suspension is typically given as a single dose, missing a dose is rare. However, if your doctor has scheduled a follow-up dose and you forget to give it on the scheduled day, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for another scheduled check-up, talk to your doctor or pharmacist for advice. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

• Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight. • Keep Nemocid Suspension out of the sight and reach of children. • Non cold chain - To be stored in cool places at 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.

Drug Warnings

  • Inspect the liquid: Always check the liquid before giving it to your child. Ensure there is no unusual discolouration, clumping, or unexpected particles after a thorough shake.
  • Treat the whole family: Because worm infections spread incredibly easily within a household, your doctor may recommend treating everyone in the home at the same time to prevent passing the infection back and forth.
  • Verify the dose measuring device: Never use kitchen teaspoons to measure the liquid. Only use the syringe or dosing cup provided with the bottle to ensure accuracy.
  • Watch for repeat symptoms: Keep a close eye on your child for 2 weeks after treatment. If itching or other symptoms return, consult your doctor, as a second dose may be required.

Drug-Drug Interactions

  • Piperazine: Do not give Nemocid Suspension alongside medications containing piperazine. These two drugs can block each other's effects, making both treatments ineffective against the infection.

FAQs

Nemocid Suspension is used to treat Parasitic worm infections.
Nemocid Suspension causes metabolic disruption and energy depletion in the parasite, which leads to its immobilisation. Thereby, Nemocid Suspension kills the susceptible helminth and treats the infection.
Parasitic infections may easily spread from one person to another, especially in people in the same household. Therefore, the entire household may also be treated to prevent the infection.
Sometimes, worm infections may return after treatment. To prevent such recurrence of infection, it is advised to avoid scratching the anal area, wash hands and fingernails before eating and after using the bathroom, and wash (not shaking) all bedding and nightclothes after treatment. Also, regularly clean the toilet seat and keep it clean.
Nemocid Suspension might increase the chances of getting an infection. Maintain proper hygiene and try to stay away from people with infections, flu or colds.
Yes, Nemocid Suspension can be taken with or without food. You can give it at any time of day, and it can also be mixed with juice, milk, or water if your child has difficulty taking it plain. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you need tips on giving it.
Yes, because worm infections (especially pinworms) spread very easily through shared surfaces, clothes, and bedding, doctors often recommend treating the entire household at the same time. Talk to your doctor to see if this is necessary for your family.
No, Nemocid Suspension only kills the adult worms inside the digestive system; it does not destroy the eggs. This is why strict household cleaning and hand hygiene are crucial, and why your doctor may schedule a second dose two weeks later to catch any newly hatched worms. Talk to your doctor for a personalised schedule.
If your child vomits shortly after taking the dose (usually within 30 to 60 minutes), some or all of the medicine may not have been absorbed. Do not immediately give another dose. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist for advice on whether to repeat the dose.
Nemocid Suspension is generally not recommended for children under 2 years of age or weighing less than 11 kg (25 pounds) unless a doctor specifically prescribes it. Always talk to your doctor before giving this medication to an infant.
Yes, it is common to see dead worms in your child's stool for a few days after taking the medication. This is a normal sign that the treatment is working. If you have concerns or if the symptoms do not improve, talk to your doctor.
Yes, your child can usually return to school or daycare once they have taken the first dose and basic hygiene measures (like clipping nails and washing hands) are in place. However, check your local school or daycare policy regarding worm infections, and talk to your doctor if you are unsure.
