About Lafix-O Tablet

Lafix-O Tablet is a prescription medicine used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections in the body, such as infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, and certain typhoid fevers. It combines two antibacterial agents with a gut-friendly probiotic to clear the infection while preserving digestive comfort.

To get the best results, you must take Lafix-O Tablet regularly at evenly spaced intervals and Using antibiotics only as prescribed and completing the full course helps support responsible antibiotic use to protect future treatments and reduces the risk of antibiotic resistance. You can take this medicine with or without food, but taking it with a meal can help reduce the chance of a mild upset stomach. Staying well-hydrated and resting during your treatment will also support your body’s recovery.

While this medicine is highly effective, some people may experience mild side effects like nausea, stomach discomfort, or loose stools. If you experience severe, watery, or bloody diarrhoea, or a sudden skin rash, contact your doctor immediately for advice on whether treatment should be continued.

Talk to your doctor before starting Lafix-O Tablet if you have a history of kidney disease, tendon problems, or severe intestinal inflammation. Cefixime belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics, while ofloxacin belongs to the fluoroquinolone class, so tell your doctor if you have a known allergy to either class.

This medicine can interact with certain other treatments, such as antacids, iron supplements, and blood thinners, which may reduce its effectiveness or increase side effects. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or managing health conditions in the elderly, as special precautions may be needed.

Uses of Lafix-O Tablet

Lafix-O Tablet is used to treat the following conditions:

  • Typhoid fever: It helps eliminate the bacteria responsible for this serious systemic infection (an infection that can spread throughout the body), reducing fever and systemic symptoms. Resistance patterns vary by region, and your doctor will determine whether this combination is appropriate based on current treatment guidelines.
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs): It targets and clears bacterial growth in the bladder and kidneys, relieving pain and frequent urination.
  • Respiratory tract infections: It may be used to treat certain susceptible bacterial infections of the airways and lower respiratory tract when prescribed by a doctor. This combination is not a first-line treatment for all respiratory infections and is used only in specific clinically appropriate situations based on current treatment guidelines and local resistance patterns.
  • Infections with digestive support: It treats target bacterial infections while actively preventing the severe diarrhoea and gut imbalance often triggered by strong antibiotics.

Key Benefits

Benefits of Lafix-O Tablet include:

  • Faster recovery from infection: By clearing the bacteria causing your illness, Lafix-O Tablet helps you recover faster and return to your daily activities without pain or discomfort.
  • Supports digestive health during treatment: Unlike standard antibiotics that can disrupt your digestion, this medicine includes built-in stomach protection to keep your gut healthy during treatment. This dual-action approach means fewer disruptions like diarrhoea or abdominal cramping, ensuring a more comfortable recovery process.

How Lafix-O Tablet Works

Lafix-O Tablet contains cefixime, ofloxacin, and lactic acid bacillus, which work together to fight bacterial infections and support digestive health. Cefixime stops bacteria from building their protective outer cell walls. Without an intact cell wall, the bacteria cannot maintain their structure and die.  Ofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes that are essential for DNA replication and transcription. This prevents the bacteria from multiplying and helps eliminate the infection.  Lactic acid bacillus is a strain of beneficial bacteria. Antibiotics naturally kill both harmful and beneficial bacteria in the gut, which can lead to diarrhoea. Lactic acid bacillus helps restore and maintain the balance of healthy gut flora, supporting digestive health during antibiotic treatment.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water and clear fluids throughout the day to stay hydrated, especially if you experience mild loose stools.
  • Eat easily digestible foods: Eat light, easily digestible meals such as rice, bananas, and toast to support your stomach while clearing the infection.
  • Avoid alcohol: Avoid drinking alcohol during your treatment, as it can worsen side effects like dizziness and stomach upset, and can dehydrate your body.
  • Separate dairy products from your dose: Avoid consuming dairy products or calcium-rich drinks at the same time as your medicine, as calcium may reduce the absorption of the ofloxacin component. This effect is generally less significant than the interaction seen with calcium-containing antacids, but separating dairy products and your dose by about 2 hours is a sensible precaution. This interaction does not significantly affect cefixime absorption.
