About Foligem Tablet 15's

Foligem Tablet 15's is used to treat or prevent anemia (lack of blood) caused by a deficiency of folic acid, anemia in pregnancy, anemia due to damaged red blood cells, anemia in kidney dialysis patients and anemia that occurs as a side effect of certain medicines. Foligem Tablet 15's may be used in women before and during pregnancy to prevent spina bifida (abnormality of the spine) in babies. Anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells to carry the adequate oxygen required to various body tissues.

The Foligem Tablet 15's contains Folic acid (a form of vitamin B9) that increases healthy red blood cell (RBC) production in the body and carries oxygen throughout the body. As a result, an adequate amount of hemoglobin (Hb) is produced in the body so that body's each tissue gets a sufficient supply of oxygen.

Take Foligem Tablet 15's as recommended by your doctor. You may experience nausea, black stool, constipation, loss of appetite, bloating or flatulence (gas) in some cases. Most of these side effects of Foligem Tablet 15's do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Foligem Tablet 15's or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before using Foligem Tablet 15's. Foligem Tablet 15's should be used with caution in children and only if recommended by a doctor. If you have an allergy to any sugars, inform your doctor before taking Foligem Tablet 15's as it may contain lactose. If you have a stomach ulcer, vitamin B12 deficiency, any blood disorder, repeated blood transfusions, ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon), pernicious anemia (anemia due to lack of vitamin B12) or folate-dependent tumor, inform your doctor before taking Foligem Tablet 15's.

  • Prevention of Neural Tube Defects: Foligem Tablet 15's is commonly taken by pregnant women to lower the risk of neural tube defects in the developing fetus. Adequate folic acid intake is essential during pregnancy for proper fetal growth and development.
  • Treatment of Megaloblastic Anaemia: Foligem Tablet 15's is used to address megaloblastic anaemia, which occurs due to folate deficiency. This condition is marked by the production of abnormally large red blood cells.

What if I have taken an overdose of Foligem Tablet 15's

Take Foligem Tablet 15's only as suggested by the physician. Do not exceed the recommended dose, as it might cause an overdose. If you suspect you have taken an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

Drug Warnings

If you are allergic to Foligem Tablet 15's or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Avoid taking Foligem Tablet 15's if you have cancer. Foligem Tablet 15's should be used with caution in children and only if recommended by a doctor. If you are breastfeeding, please consult a doctor before using Foligem Tablet 15's. If you have pernicious anaemia (anaemia due to lack of vitamin B12), a tumour or if you are receiving a stent in the heart or undergoing haemodialysis due to kidney failure, inform your doctor before taking Foligem Tablet 15's. You are recommended to maintain a time gap of a minimum of 2 hours between taking Foligem Tablet 15's and indigestion remedies such as antacids containing magnesium or aluminium and edible clay. Inform your doctor if you are allergic to any sugars as Foligem Tablet 15's contains lactose. 

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Eat a healthy diet, especially green leafy vegetables, and do regular physical exercise.
  • Limit junk food items from outside and stick to freshly prepared home-cooked meals.
  • Eat cabbage, spinach, broccoli, asparagus, kale, brussels sprouts, lentils, peas, and beans. Also include beef and yeast extracts, poultry, liver, shellfish, and pork.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
  • Avoid consumption of alcohol.

You are not recommended to take Foligem Tablet 15's with phenytoin as co-administration of these two medicines may reduce the levels of Foligem Tablet 15's in blood and increase the risk of seizures (fits). However, if you are supposed to use these medicines together, please consult a doctor so that the dose may be adjusted appropriately to use safely.

Foligem Tablet 15's should be used with caution and in doses as advised by a doctor in dialysis patients or end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or kidney failure. However, it is advised to inform your doctor if you are undergoing dialysis before taking Foligem Tablet 15's.

Foligem Tablet 15's is recommended during pregnancy to maintain correct levels of folic acid and reduce the risk of neural tube defects such as spina bifida (abnormality of the spine) in babies, usually caused due to folic acid deficiency. Foligem Tablet 15's helps in the development of the brain and spinal cord in the unborn baby. However, please consult a doctor if you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy before using Foligem Tablet 15's.

You are recommended to consult a doctor before taking Foligem Tablet 15's with other vitamins or supplements.

If you miss a dose of Foligem Tablet 15's, do not worry. Take it as soon as you remember. But, if it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Though a balanced diet rich in leafy greens, fortified grains and fruits provides folate, some people may need supplements like Foligem Tablet 15's to meet their daily requirements.
