Fesims Tablet is used to treat anaemia (deficiency of iron and haemoglobin). Its deficiency occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). It contains Iron and Folic acid, which work by boosting the production of red blood cells (RBC) in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBCs are produced in the body, so that body's each tissue gets a sufficient supply of oxygen. It may cause side effects such as constipation, dry mouth, loss of appetite, bloating, and diarrhoea in some cases. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

About Fesims Tablet

Fesims Tablet belongs to a class of medications called 'haematinics' primarily used to treat anaemia (deficiency of iron and haemoglobin). Its deficiency occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). Anaemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen required to various body tissues. 

Fesims Tablet is a combination drug containing Iron and Folic acid (haematinics combination) primarily used to treat anaemia. Fesims Tablet works by boosting the production of red blood cells (RBC) in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBCs are produced in the body, so that body's each tissue gets a sufficient supply of oxygen. 

Take Fesims Tablet as directed by your doctor. You may experience constipation, dry mouth, loss of appetite, bloating, and diarrhoea in some cases. Most of these side effects of Fesims Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Do not take Fesims Tablet if you are allergic to Fesims Tablet , iron, folic acid or any of the ingredients of Fesims Tablet . Do not start taking any new medication without telling your doctor. Fesims Tablet is generally given at least 4 weeks before pregnancy and is continued up to 3 months of pregnancy. If you have got any part of the stomach removed, please inform your doctor before taking Fesims Tablet . Fesims Tablet is given to a child under 12 years of age should be given under strict medical supervision.

Tablet: Take it with or without food as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. Suspension: Shake the bottle well before use. Take the recommended dose by mouth using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper provided by the pack.

What if I have taken an overdose of Fesims Tablet

Do not take more than the suggested dose of Fesims Tablet as it may cause overdose. The symptoms of overdose include vomiting, severe stomach pain, shallow breathing, bloody diarrhea, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds, weak and rapid pulse, blue lips, pale skin, and seizures (fits). If you suspect you have taken overdose or notice signs of overdose, please consult a doctor immediately.

Fesims Tablet  is generally given at least four weeks before pregnancy and is continued up to 3 months of pregnancy. Also, if giving Fesims Tablet  to a child, a child specialist's dose will be decided as an overdose of Fesims Tablet in children can lead to deadly poisoning. If you have got any part of the stomach removed, please inform your doctor before taking Fesims Tablet . 

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  •  Eat a healthy diet, especially green leafy vegetables, and do regular physical exercise.

  • Limit the consumption of alcohol, junk food items from outside and stick to freshly prepared home-cooked meals.

  • Increase intake of fruits in your diet, especially fruits which a rich in iron like pomegranate, citrus fruits.

  • Fesims Tablet can cause dry mouth, so drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated.

Folic acid requirements are usually met from the diet, but additional supplements are required in its deficiency. Fesims Tablet is advised to pregnant women who want to conceive as folate utilization is increased in pregnancy. It is recommended not to take Fesims Tablet along with tea, coffee, or milk, and even eggs as the body might absorb less iron supplements if you take them together, which may reduce the effectiveness of Fesims Tablet .

Fesims Tablet is best absorbed if taken on an empty stomach. But in some patients, it causes an upset stomach if taken empty stomach. So, please take it as suggested by your doctor if you have an upset stomach problem.

If you are pregnant, it is necessary to maintain the right level of folic acid to reduce the risk of neural tube defects as baby's central nervous system develops. So, to avoid any defect, it is necessary to take it for the first three months as the neural tube is formed completely by this time.

Daily oral iron and folic acid supplementation with 30-60 mg of elemental iron and 400 µg (0.4 mg) folic acid is recommended for pregnant women to prevent puerperal sepsis, maternal anaemia, low birth weight, and preterm birth.

Folic acid is rich in various foods like broccoli, brussels sprouts, liver, spinach, and asparagus, while iron is found in dark-green leafy vegetables, fortified cereals, nuts, and dried fruit. To maintain a healthy and balanced diet, include all major food groups, especially those containing vitamin c, as it aids iron absorption.

The side effects of Fesims Tablet are feeling sick, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, and constipation. If any of these persist or worsen consult your doctor.

Yes, Fesims Tablet may interact with medications used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, blood cholesterol, Parkinson's disease, thyroid disease, bone disease, certain cancers, malaria, Wilson's disease, and antibiotics. So please consult your doctor before taking Fesims Tablet with other medicines.

Folic acid deficiency can lead to health issues like anemia, birth defects, neuropsychiatric symptoms, and oral ulcers. Symptoms of folic acid deficiency include pale skin, decreased appetite, diarrhoea, depression, insomnia, cognitive decline, and psychosis. If you experience any of these symptoms, please consult your doctor.
