ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE belongs to a class of medicines known as antibiotics used to treat various infections caused by bacteria, dysentery and diarrhoea. A bacterial infection is a condition in which harmful bacteria enter, multiply and infect our bodies. It can target any body part and multiply very quickly. Amoebic dysentery can be caused by Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia or Clostridium difficile. Diarrhoea is an increase in bowel movement leading to increased and loose motions.

ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE contains furazolidone and metronidazole. Flurazolidone works by interfering with protein synthesis, a mechanism which is important for the survival of bacteria. Metronidazole kills parasites and anaerobic bacteria that are responsible for causing infections. It works by damaging their DNA. Collectively, they help in treating the disease effectively.

What if I have taken an overdose of ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE

If you are allergic to furazolidone, metronidazole or any other antibacterial or anti-amoebic agents, please inform your doctor to avoid any unwanted side effects. ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE should not be taken in conditions like liver disease or kidney disease. Before taking ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have a fit disorder, numbness, or pain in your feet or hands. ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE may have a low white blood cell count (leukopenia). ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE may cause convulsions (rapid contraction and relaxation of body muscles). If you observe these symptoms, immediately contact your doctor. Discontinue the ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE if any signs of low blood count are observed. Immediately inform your doctor if you experience swelling of the face, tongue, throat, itchy rash, or breathing difficulties while taking this ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE. ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE is safely given to children above one month of age. It is advisable that you do not drive while using ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE as ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE may cause blurred vision or dizziness that may affect the ability to drive or use machines. It is not advisable to stop taking ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE suddenly to avoid unpleasant side effects. The full course prescribed by the doctor should be completed.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Do not drink or eat a lot of caffeine-containing products such as coffee, tea, energy drinks, cola or chocolate. ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE may increase nervousness, sleeplessness and anxiety caused by caffeine.
  • Probiotics should be taken after taking the full course of ENTROFURAN M CAPSULE in order to restore some healthy bacteria in the intestines that may have been killed. Taking probiotics after antibiotic treatment can reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Certain fermented foods like yogurt, cheese, sauerkraut, kombucha and kimchi can help restore the intestine's good bacteria.
  • Include more fibre-enriched food in your diet, as it can be easily digested by your gut bacteria, which helps stimulate their growth. Thus, fibre-rich foods may help restore healthy gut bacteria after a course of antibiotics. Whole grains like whole-grain bread and brown rice should be included in your diet.
