About Emtofa-XR Tablet

Emtofa-XR Tablet is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (an autoimmune disease which leads to joint pain and damage), psoriatic arthritis (an inflammatory condition of the joints), and ulcerative colitis (an inflammatory disease of the large intestine).

Emtofa-XR Tablet contains Tofacitinib, which works by blocking the Janus kinase enzyme, thereby lowering inflammation and symptoms associated with rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis. 

Not everyone who is taking Emtofa-XR Tablet will get these side effects. In some cases, you may experience common side effects such as diarrhoea, headache, upper respiratory tract infection, cold, nausea, and vomiting. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

You can take Emtofa-XR Tablet with or without food. It should be swallowed as a whole with a glass of water. Do not chew, bite, crush, or break it. Your doctor will advise you on how often you should take your tablets based on your medical condition. It is always important to complete your treatment course for better results.

Avoid taking Emtofa-XR Tablet if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have an active infection, if you are taking immunosuppressants, medicines that affect the immune system or corticosteroids. Avoid taking Emtofa-XR Tablet if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Emtofa-XR Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years as safety and effectiveness have not been established.

  • Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis: Emtofa-XR Tablet helps to manage moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis by reducing joint pain, inflammation, and slowing disease progression.
  • Management of Psoriatic Arthritis: Emtofa-XR Tablet treats active psoriatic arthritis by reducing joint pain, swelling, stiffness, and improving overall joint function.
  • Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis: Emtofa-XR Tablet helps to induce and maintain remission in moderate to severe ulcerative colitis.

Directions for Use

  • Emtofa-XR Tablet can be taken with or without food.
  • It is recommended to take Emtofa-XR Tablet 1-2 times a day, depending on your medical condition, or as prescribed by your doctor.

Side effects of Emtofa-XR Tablet
To prevent, manage, and treat Constipation caused by medication usage, follow these steps:
  • Preventing Vomiting (Before it Happens)
  • Take medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. This can help minimize side effects, including vomiting.
  • Having a small meal before taking your medication can help reduce nausea and vomiting.
  • Talk to your doctor about taking anti-nausea medication along with your prescribed medication.
  • Managing Vomiting (If it Happens)
  • Try taking ginger in the form of tea, ale, or candy to help alleviate nausea and vomiting.
  • What to Do if Vomiting Persists

  • Keep your skin clean by gently washing your face two times daily and after sweating. Choose a mild and non-abrasive cleanser.

Emtofa-XR Tablet is not recommended for patients with severe liver impairment. Dose adjustment may be needed in patients with mild to moderate liver impairment. Please consult the doctor if you have liver problems.

Emtofa-XR Tablet may increase the risk of cancer by changing the way the immune system works. Inform the doctor if you ever had any type of cancer.

Emtofa-XR Tablet may begin working within 2-8 weeks after starting the treatment.

Emtofa-XR Tablet should not be taken along with tocilizumab as it might increase the risk of infections. Before starting Emtofa-XR Tablet , inform the doctor if you are taking tocilizumab.

Prior to starting Emtofa-XR Tablet , active or latent tuberculosis test, CBC (complete blood count), LFT (liver function test), and lipid profile tests should be done.
