It works by inhibiting the growth of infection-causing microbes. Dressil Ointment 20 gm is effective against bacteria (Gram-positive and Gram-negative, including antibiotic-resistant and antiseptic-resistant strains), fungi, and viruses. Dressil Ointment 20 gm contains Metronidazole, Povidone-Iodine and Sucralfate. Povidone iodine works by inhibiting the growth of infection-causing microbes. Metronidazole inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death and ultimately killing the bacteria. Sucralfate helps form a protective barrier over the wound, promoting healing. Do not use Dressil Ointment 20 gm if you are allergic to povidone-iodine. Using Dressil Ointment 20 gm during breastfeeding may increase the iodine levels in breast milk, which can cause hypothyroidism in breastfed infants.
