• Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS): It helps by replacing the missing natural lung fluid in premature babies, which stops the small air sacs in the lungs from sticking together and collapsing.
• Preventive (prophylactic) use: It may be given shortly after birth to some extremely premature babies who are at high risk of developing breathing problems due to low surfactant levels.
