About Ceflox Eye/Ear Drops

Ceflox Eye/Ear Drops is a combination medicine formulated as eye or ear drops for the treatment of localised bacterial infections and associated irritation. It contains chlorpheniramine maleate, ciprofloxacin, and zinc sulphate, which work together to help control bacterial infection, relieve local allergic symptoms such as itching, and reduce irritation in the affected eye or ear. Because the medicine acts directly where it is applied, it is different from oral antibiotics or oral antihistamines that work throughout the body.

To get the best results, use this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Because the drops are applied directly to the affected eye or ear, they can be used with or without food. Maintaining good hygiene, such as washing your hands before each application and keeping the dropper tip clean, helps reduce the risk of contamination and supports recovery.

Most people tolerate this medicine well, although you may notice mild burning, stinging, redness, or temporary irritation immediately after applying the drops. These effects usually settle within a short time. Consult your doctor right away if you develop severe eye or ear pain, persistent vision changes, increasing swelling, or signs of a severe allergic reaction.

Before using Ceflox Eye/Ear Drops, tell your doctor if you have dry eyes, glaucoma, or a damaged or perforated eardrum. Do not use this medicine if you have a known allergy to chlorpheniramine maleate, ciprofloxacin, zinc sulphate, or similar medicines.

Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, herbal products, and other eye or ear medicines you are using before starting treatment. If you are using more than one eye or ear drop, leave an appropriate interval between each medicine so one product does not wash away the other. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or caring for an older adult, consult your doctor before using this medicine.

How Ceflox Eye/Ear Drops Works

Ceflox Eye/Ear Drops contains three active ingredients that work together to treat localised bacterial infections and relieve irritation in the eye or ear. Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that blocks bacterial enzymes needed for DNA replication. This prevents bacteria from growing and multiplying, allowing the infection to clear. Chlorpheniramine maleate provides local antiallergic and anti-itch effects when applied to the eye or ear. It helps reduce itching and irritation at the site of application rather than producing the widespread antihistamine effects seen with tablets or syrups. Zinc sulphate acts mainly as a mild astringent. It helps reduce excess discharge from the affected area and supports the relief of minor irritation on the surface of the eye or outer ear.

  • Protect your eyes outdoors: Wear sunglasses when outdoors to help protect your healing eyes from bright sunlight, wind, and dust, which may increase irritation.
  • Keep your ears dry: If you are treating an ear infection, avoid swimming and keep the affected ear dry. Use a shower cap or earplugs carefully while bathing to help prevent water from entering the ear.
  • Avoid rubbing the affected area: Do not rub your eyes or scratch your ears because this can transfer new bacteria to the affected area and delay healing.
  • Maintain good hygiene: Wash your pillowcases, sheets, towels, and face cloths regularly in hot water to help prevent spreading the infection or becoming reinfected.

FAQs

Ceflox Eye/Ear Drops is used to treat bacterial eye and ear infections.
Ceflox Eye/Ear Drops contains three medications: Chlorpheniramine maleate (an antihistamine), Ciprofloxacin (an antibiotic), and Zinc Sulphate (an astringent and antiseptic). Chlorpheniramine maleate works by preventing the release of chemical messengers involved in allergies, thereby reducing red, itchy, and watery eyes. Ciprofloxacin stops the bacteria from making new DNA by inhibiting a bacterial enzyme (DNA gyrase), thereby preventing them from growing and multiplying. Zinc Sulphate helps reduce inflammation and irritation caused by allergies and clears out the infection-causing organisms.
Ceflox Eye/Ear Drops may cause common side effects such as irritation, itching, redness, pain, discomfort, and a burning or stinging sensation in the eye/ear. Most of these side effects of Ceflox Eye/Ear Drops will gradually resolve on their own without the need for medical attention. However, if these side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
Ceflox Eye/Ear Drops may cause temporary blurred vision when used in the eyes. Therefore, you are advised to wait until your vision is clear before driving or operating heavy machinery.
No, Ceflox Eye/Ear Drops is intended only for bacterial eye and ear infections. Therefore, it is not recommended to use Ceflox Eye/Ear Drops for fungal or viral infections in the eye.
No. You should avoid wearing contact lenses until your eye infection has completely cleared and your doctor says it is safe to wear them again. Contact lenses can trap bacteria against your eye, absorb preservatives from the drops, and worsen eye irritation.
No. Even if you have infections affecting both your eye and your ear, you should use separate bottles. Using the same bottle for both areas may transfer bacteria from one site to the other and increase the risk of infection.
A mild, temporary stinging or burning sensation is common immediately after applying the drops and usually settles within a few minutes. If the stinging is severe, lasts for a long time, or is accompanied by severe eye pain or vision changes, consult your doctor promptly.
Consult your doctor before using these drops if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Your doctor will carefully weigh the expected benefits of treating the infection against any potential risks before recommending this medicine.
No. Do not stop using the medicine early. If treatment is stopped before the bacteria have been completely cleared, the infection may return and become more difficult to treat. Always complete the exact course prescribed by your doctor.
Once the bottle has been opened, bacteria from the surrounding environment can gradually enter the container. Using the drops after 4 weeks may increase the risk of introducing bacteria back into your eye or ear. If you have questions about disposing of unused medicine safely, ask your pharmacist.
If you are using the drops in your eyes, you may experience temporary blurred vision immediately after application. Do not drive, cycle, operate machinery, or perform tasks requiring clear vision until your eyesight has completely returned to normal. Consult your doctor if your vision remains blurred or worsens.
