Atoxim-S 1.5 gm Injection belongs to the group of medicines called antibiotics. It is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections in the body. A bacterial infection is a condition in which harmful bacteria grow in the body and cause infection.
Atoxim-S 1.5 gm Injection contains Ceftizoxime (third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic) and Sulbactam (beta-lactamase inhibitor). It works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall (a protective covering) that is necessary for their survival. This causes damage to the bacterial cell wall and eventually leads to the death of the bacterial cell. Thereby killing the bacteria. Sulbactam works by decreasing bacterial resistance and enhancing the activity of Ceftizoxime against the bacteria. Thus, Atoxim-S 1.5 gm Injection helps to treat bacterial infections.
Atoxim-S 1.5 gm Injection may cause Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea (CDAD). Antibiotic treatment alters the normal flora, leading to overgrowth of Clostridium difficile, which causes diarrhoea. Drink lots of fluids and eat non-spicy food if you experience diarrhoea. If you find blood in your stools (tarry stools) or if you experience prolonged diarrhoea with abdominal pain, stop taking Atoxim-S 1.5 gm Injection and consult your doctor. Do not take anti-diarrheal medicine on your own.
Inform your doctor if you do not feel better even after finishing the full course of treatment. If the symptoms worsen while using this medicine, consult your doctor.
Usually, Atoxim-S 1.5 gm Injection starts working soon after taking it. However, it may take a few days to kill all the harmful bacteria and make you feel better.
To reduce the development of antibiotic resistance and maintain the effectiveness of Atoxim-S 1.5 gm Injection, it should only be used to treat or prevent infections that are proven or highly suspected to be caused by bacteria.
