Xtracare Ointment is a combination of three drugs, namely, povidone-iodine, ornidazole, and sucralfate. Povidone iodine is an antiseptic agent that works by releasing iodine and damaging the protein, fatty acids, and nucleotides of micro-organism cells. Ornidazole is an antiprotozoal agent that kills infection-causing agents by damaging their DNA. Sucralfate is an anti-ulcer medication that forms a protective barrier over the wound to help promote healing. Together, Xtracare Ointment helps treat wound infections.

The common side effects of Xtracare Ointment are burning, itching, irritation, and dry skin. However, these side effects gradually decrease over time. Please consult your doctor if any of these side effects persist or worsen.
