I am a diabetic and currently using Human Mixtard 50/50 insulin daily as prescribed by my physician. As I travel frequently, carrying insulin vials and syringes is becoming difficult for me. I would like to switch to INSUpen with Insugen-50/50 cartridges for convenience during travel. Kindly advise whether this switch is suitable and, if appropriate, provide a prescription for the same.

Switching from Human Mixtard 50/50 injection to INSUpen with Insugen 50/50 cartridges is usually possible and can make insulin use much easier, especially if you travel often. Since both are premixed human insulins, many people can continue with the same dose, but the change should be made only after consulting your doctor to ensure your blood sugar remains stable. Your doctor will confirm whether the insulin strength, timing, and dose are right for you. You should also learn the correct way to use the insulin pen, attach needles properly, and store the cartridges safely. While travelling, unused cartridges should be kept cool, but the cartridge currently being used can usually stay at room temperature for a limited time. Do not switch insulin devices on your own without medical advice, as the wrong dose may cause very high or very low blood sugar. Keep monitoring your fasting and post-meal sugar levels closely for the first few days after switching. If suitable, your doctor may prescribe INSUpen, compatible needles, and Insugen 50/50 cartridges for regular use.
