Your symptoms are most likely due to a common viral cold along with irritation of the nasal lining. A cold can cause swelling in the nose, leading to blockage and mucus buildup for several days. The fact that you feel better in sunlight suggests that warmth and fresh air may be helping to open your nasal passages. When you are indoors, triggers such as dust, closed rooms, air conditioning, mould, or strong smells can worsen nasal congestion. For relief, you can try steam inhalation 2 to 3 times a day to loosen mucus. Saline nasal drops or a saline rinse can also help safely clear the nose. Drink plenty of warm fluids and get adequate rest. Keep your room clean, reduce dust exposure, and wash bedding in hot water. If an allergy is suspected, an over-the-counter antihistamine may help reduce congestion. Please see a doctor if your symptoms last more than 10 days, worsen, or if you develop fever, facial pain, or thick yellow or green nasal discharge.
