I have type 2 diabetes, and my blood glucose fluctuates despite taking 18 units of insulin. What could be causing this, and how can I better control it?

Blood glucose fluctuations in type 2 diabetes may be caused by irregular meals, inconsistent carbohydrate intake, incorrect insulin timing or dose, or poor injection technique. Illness, stress, lack of exercise, and the early morning rise in blood glucose (known as the dawn phenomenon) may also contribute. To improve control, check your blood glucose regularly and keep meals, especially carbohydrates, consistent throughout the day. It is important to speak with your doctor to review your insulin dose and timing, as adjustments or additional treatment may be needed.
