Here’s a practical dosing and stopping guide for Corex DX syrup.
🩺 Dosage (typical)
- Corex DX contains chlorpheniramine maleate 4 mg (milligram)/5 ml (milliliter) and dextromethorphan hydrobromide 10 mg/5 ml; 5 ml (one teaspoon) = those amounts.
- A common regimen for adults is 5 ml every 4–6 hours, up to 4 times daily (total 20 ml/day = 40 mg dextromethorphan, 16 mg chlorpheniramine).
- Exact dose and frequency should be set by a doctor based on age, weight and other medicines.
⚠️ When to stop / seek care
- Stop the syrup when your cough has substantially improved or when your doctor tells you to stop.
- If there is no improvement after 5–7 days, or the cough worsens, stop and see a doctor.
- Stop immediately and seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, marked drowsiness/confusion, or coughing blood/high fever.
💊 Important precautions
- Avoid alcohol and other sedatives; do not drive if drowsy.
- Not recommended for children under 2 years; inform a doctor if pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other medicines (especially monoamine oxidase inhibitors).
- If you miss a dose, take it when remembered unless the next dose is due soon.
🩺 Follow-up
- Please tell me your age (or whether you’re pregnant/breastfeeding) and any other medicines you take so I can give a more precise, safe dosing recommendation.
