I have had a heavy cold for the past one week. What could be the reason for this?

A heavy cold lasting for one week can happen because of viral infection, allergy, sinus irritation, pollution exposure, weather changes, or lowered immunity. Symptoms such as blocked nose, sneezing, throat irritation, cough, mucus, headache, and body heaviness may continue longer if the airways remain inflamed or if allergies are also present. Dust, smoke, cold drinks, and sudden temperature changes may further worsen congestion and throat discomfort. Warm fluids, steam inhalation, saltwater gargles, and proper rest may help reduce nasal blockage and irritation gradually. Drinking enough water and eating light, nutritious meals may also support recovery. Avoid smoking, alcohol, oily foods, and repeated exposure to dust or pollution because these can delay improvement. If the symptoms are due to allergy or sinus problems, the cold may keep returning or remain persistent despite temporary relief. Thick mucus, facial heaviness, or worsening headache may suggest sinus involvement. Avoid starting antibiotics repeatedly without medical advice because many colds are viral and improve with supportive care. Consult a doctor if high fever, breathing difficulty, chest pain, ear pain, or worsening symptoms continue beyond several more days.
