I took Azithral 500 mg for a throat infection, and now I have had diarrhoea for the last week. What should I do?

Diarrhoea after taking Azithral 500 can happen because antibiotics sometimes disturb the normal healthy bacteria present in the intestines. This may lead to loose motions, stomach cramps, bloating, or abdominal discomfort for several days, especially if the stomach is sensitive or hydration is poor. In most mild cases, the symptoms improve gradually after the medicine is stopped, but persistent diarrhoea should not be ignored. Drinking enough fluids is very important to prevent dehydration. Oral rehydration solution, coconut water, rice water, curd, banana, toast, and light meals may help support recovery. Avoid oily foods, spicy meals, alcohol, and outside food because these may worsen irritation in the intestines. Proper rest and avoiding unnecessary medicines may also help the stomach recover faster. Persistent diarrhoea for a week may sometimes indicate significant antibiotic-related bowel irritation or infection, especially if stools are very frequent. Avoid taking anti-diarrheal medicines repeatedly without medical advice because some may not be suitable in infection-related diarrhoea. Consult a doctor if fever, blood in stool, severe weakness, dehydration, abdominal pain, or continued loose motions develop despite proper hydration and diet care.
